Houston, Texas – October 12, 2012
Allied Power Group announced the completion of an expansion of over 35,000 sq. ft. to its Houston, Texas, service center. This addition will allow APG’s in-house capabilities to include Vacuum Heat Treating, High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) and Air Plasma Spray (APS) Coating, as well as a heavy mechanical department, a new CNC horizontal machining center and a Metallurgical Lab.
According to Keith Marler, President of Allied Power Group, “These additional capabilities will improve our turn times and allow APG to serve the needs of our customers with an even higher degree of efficiency and effectiveness.” He added “Thanks to my team, we will continue to be the best and largest privately held turbine repair facility in the world.”
All the new equipment in the facility is state-of-the-art, beginning with two (2) new Ipsen Model H6660 TurboTreater® Vacuum Furnaces with a 48″ x 48″ x 60″ load capacity and all-metallic hot-zone construction. Each is capable of processing 5,000 lb. gross loads between 1,000° F and 2,400° F with a +/- 10° F temperature uniformity for ultra clean vacuum heat treat and brazing capability. The patented gas quenching system with its 200hp cooling motor allows the TurboTreaters to save time and money, by cutting cycle times by up to 20%, reducing gas consumption up to 40%, and offering 360° cooling and heating for superior metallurgical results. This truly is the industry standard for quenching speed, energy efficiency and repeatability.
In addition, there is a Sulzer Metco custom engineered Coating Booth which incorporates the latest generation HVOF coating gun for more dense coverage, as well as a completely automated ABB Robot which can be run manually through a teach pendant from outside the booth, or programmed with robot language. For Metallography, a new metallurgical laboratory will help determine advanced repair techniques and assist in engineering design upgrades. This will help Allied extend part life and lower operating costs.
